Frequently Asked
How do I apply for scholarships?
Apply online at https://bit.ly/2022Entrance. You can also access the application form and more information at scholarships.suncrestcollege.ca
Can I apply for College scholarships and my university scholarships?
Yes you can apply for entrance scholarships from College and add them to any other scholarships you may receive from any source. The deadline for entrance scholarships is usually in May before the new academic year, awards are made at the end of September. In addition, students who are taking classes from College can also apply for the internal scholarships that are awarded in February/March. Some students receive up to $3000 from College in scholarships alone.
When is the scholarship application deadline?
Applications must be received by 11:59 p.m. CST on May 16, 2022.
How many scholarships can I apply for?
You may apply for a maximum of three (3) scholarships. The Scholarship Committee will award one scholarship per person. The Scholarship Committee reserves the right to move an application to a different scholarship, if appropriate. Award availability is subject to change.
How is academic merit determined for scholarships?
The committee will use the average of the following:
- Highest Grade 12 English mark
- Highest Grade 12 Math mark
- A combination of the next-highest marks in three Grade 12 subjects, only one of which may be an Arts class (e.g. Band 30).
If I am awarded an entrance scholarship am I still elgible to apply for internal scholarships?
Recipients of Entrance awards are also eligible to apply for College General Awards/Internal Scholarships. The online application window is open from December 1 to January 31 of each academic year.
If I'm selected, when will I receive my scholarship money?
Successful applicants will be notified via email by early June. It is important that you provide us with a current email address and mailing address in your application. Entrance scholarships will be awarded in the form of a cheque addressed to the recipient in late September, after proof of enrolment is obtained.
How will I know if I was chosen for a scholarship?
Only successful applicants will be notified.
Do I need to submit a transcript for every scholarship I apply for?
Most awards require your high school marks to help us calculate academic merit (please see next FAQ). We require only one copy of your transcript.
For selection purposes, we require a transcript of either your Grade 12 final marks OR your Grade 12 first semester marks if you are graduating in June 2022. In either case, a High School transcript must be provided to be considered for an award.
NOTE: For income tax purposes, you must provide your Social Insurance Number if you are selected to receive an award.
If I am selected for a scholarship is there anything else I need to provide?
Successful applicants will be required to provide a photo and a brief summary of their educational goals.
What is a letter of rationale and what should it contain?
A letter of rationale is a written statement that gives you the opportunity to explain to the Scholarship Committee why you are the best candidate for the award. The letter of rationale is extremely important as it is the core information looked at when making selections.
- Your letter of rationale should be short and concise (300 words or less).
- The preferred method of submitting your letter of rationale is in your online application. Letters will also be accepted by email or as an attachment sent to scholarships@suncrestcollege.ca.
- Scholarships determined by academic merit will use the letter of rationale in the unlikely event of a tie.
NOTE: Criteria for the letters of rationale may change slightly for each scholarship, so please check carefully when applying.
What is “academic progress”?
For current students, many Internal Scholarships require a copy of your grades to this point in the academic year to help us calculate academic merit. By completing your application, you grant the scholarship committee permission to retrieve your grades for the current academic year. Your information will not be shared outside of the committee and will be used only to calculate academic merit.
If I live outside of Saskatchewan can I still apply for scholarships?
As long as you are enrolled in a program at Parkland College, you are eligible for scholarships. If you took your secondary schooling out of province but now live in the Parkland Region, you can apply for all scholarships as long as you meet their respective eligibility requirements.
